Day 20

I didn’t sleep well last night as I was not feeling well.  I considered changing the menu to pancakes because of that and that we needed to be checked out by noon.  That idea got discarded because I had access to lots of water here which would be a better match for the dish load of pancakes.  I dug in.

Pretty colors to blow your nose in helps.
We pulled out of our campsite at 12:03.  Best time yet.

We headed up Going-to-the-Sun Road to Avalanche Creek so Mom could walk Trail of Cedars.  I stayed in the car and caught up on trip notes.  When everyone else got back, Mom insisted that I walk it as well.

Love the myriad of different ferns!

We drove up to Logan Pass so Jeremiah and Joshua could hike the High Line Trail and up to the top of Hay Stack Butte.  They left around 2:30pm and we picked them up at the bottom of Hay Stack on the road at 6:30pm.  It was supposed to be a 2 mile hike and they’d be back in a couple hours.  :)  Oh, but the pictures Jeremiah got from the top!!!!  And I sat and watched 2 mountain goats through my binoculars as they picked their way across the slopes, took naps, and nibbled brush.

Waiting on the guys ... watching the sun set.

Joshua’s camp chair got left out at Logan Pass.  I wasn’t aware that the canoe had been left unstrapped and the chair on the sidewalk.  It was gone when we came back.  Joshua had been using it as his flat surface and “clean” space, so it was quite the tragedy.  It also came in quite handy when we were loading groceries and ice in coolers in parking lots.  We’re all having to get a little more creative now.

We decided to camp at Apgar again since we hadn’t made it to Kalispell to get the tire fixed and Bowman was a ways away up a rough road.  Our old campsite was still vacant so we pitched the tipi again, grilled hot dogs over the Kelly Kettle base and had salad.  We were in bed by 10pm.

  1. is there significance to the Trail of Cedars, other than it's really beautiful?

    1. Not that I know of. It just has really, really huge trees in that area!
